6th February 2022 > > Assange DAO.

Market Snap (at time of writing)

Market Wrap

Markets have been so quiet in the last 24 hours, one might almost be forgiven that the world had gone back to a 5-day trading week, not advanced to a 7-day trading week.

How very quaint.

Curious Cryptos’ Commentary – Assange

NFT (non-fungible token) creator Pak has teamed up with Assange to create an NFT to be auctioned to raise funds to fight the US government’s appeal in the UK courts against the decision that Assange cannot be extradited to the US because of concerns about his mental health.

At the same time a new DAO (Decentralised Autonomous Organisation) has been created with the specific intention of raising funds to bid during the auction of this NFT on February 7th 2022. If the DAO wins the auction, contributors to the DAO will be given the governance token JUSTICE and will have an equitable say in what to do with the NFT and the future roadmap of the DAO.

So far, contributions to the DAO are claimed to be over 1,400 ETH or approximately $4mm though it doesn’t look that way to me:

One of the original creators of the DAO, Crypto McKenna, has this to say:

"This is a powerful movement showing we can organize in the cloud and make a difference on land. We are showing the power of leveraging permissionless, censorship-resistant digital currencies and zero-knowledge proof cryptography for retaining anonymity. We are working hard to ensure the DAO fulfills its mission.”

Regular readers know full well that the CCC is entirely apolitical and has unshakeable libertarian beliefs and instincts. Assange is neither of those things, vocalising extreme political beliefs and uncompromising support for totalitarian regimes.

On that basis, the CCC will not be contributing to this DAO, but that does not mean that this latest example of the inevitable move to a decentralised world is unwelcome. I support its structure and ethos, just not its objectives. Long may we be allowed to disagree with one another.

Reserve Treasury Protocols (before they all go to zero)

Reminder – Olympus and Wonderland are, to the best of my knowledge, live viable projects. XEUS, FORT and JADE turned out to be scams, though they are still live scams. Scams are not uncommon in these Wild West fringes of Decentralised Finance (DeFi).

Point of order – a staunch and loyal supporter of the CCC has asked that I make clear that it is only my belief that JADE is a scam. The project is still very much alive, and there is a wide body of opinion that does not concur with my view. I am very happy to make this point – the CCC believes that consenting adults are allowed to have different opinions on a wide range of topics.

Photon appears to have won the prize for being the most extraordinary scam. In under 18 hours it went to zero. And as far as I can tell – and I am no blockchain analytics expert – they walked away with less than $30k.

It is very upsetting we have scumbags like that around.
