Curious Cryptos’ Commentary – Gate.io, BONK, and the Solana Saga phone

On the 24th of November 2023 the CCC reported that gate.io – one of the premier centralised cryptocurrency exchanges – had been scared off by the UK regulator. I had very few assets there, though one of them has been much in the news lately, namely BONK. Forced off the platform, I sold my bag of BONK.

And yes, BONK is now up over 10x since that day. Once again, the UK regulator proves that its purpose is not to look after investors but is only there to restrict our ability to try to gain some degree of financial freedom. I have written to Nikhil Rathi, chief executive of the FCA, demanding recompense for my missed profits. I will let you know his response in due course.

Annoyed at this turn of events, I resisted the temptation to FOMO back in again. By chance, I then stumbled across this:

he first Web3 enabled phone costs £600 for delivery into the UK and comes with an airdrop of 30mm BONK currently valued at over £700. The US has run out of stock, and I am told the EU is heading that way.

Anyways, mine is winging its way to me in the post. I expect the resale value of this unused phone should be around £300 or so, though in years to come it is possible these will become collector pieces. A discount of 50% or more on the current price of BONK makes me feel a little better, but don’t tell Rathi that.
