3.3: Two Factor Authentication (2FA)

You may already be familiar with 2FA from online banking. The principle is that after your username and password are verified, an extra layer of security is required — addressing the fundamental weakness of passwords alone.

The version we recommend uses Google Authenticator, available in the Google Store or Apple Store. All crypto exchanges support this, and we strongly recommend you use it.

When you set up 2FA on an exchange, a QR code is presented. Scan it using Google Authenticator on your smartphone. Once a minute the app creates a new 6-digit code — input this to gain access to your account. So long as no-one can access your smartphone, no-one can access your exchange account.
