2.8: The Tor Scam

Cryptos are inextricably linked to the dark web as a potential means of paying for goods or services anonymously. To access the dark web requires the Tor browser and a VPN — Tor reroutes your browser requests via many nodes worldwide so your browsing history cannot be linked to your IP.

There has been an unfortunate hack of the Tor browser in which a malicious exit node amended the contents of browser requests. In practice, BTC wallet addresses were amended from the intended recipient to a malicious wallet address.

This was a major flaw in the Tor browser and has reportedly been rectified, but the tale is a salutary one. Always double-check wallet addresses before sending any crypto.
