2.23: Email Scams

Email scams come in two main types.

The first attempts to get you to input your seed phrase into a malicious website. A common example looks like a support email from MetaMask asking you to "synchronise" your wallet. If you click the link you are taken to a fake MetaMask site and asked to input your seed phrase. While you wait for the supposed synchronisation, scammers drain your wallet.

The second attack vector encourages you to sign a transaction purporting to do something in your favour — such as a withdrawal to your wallet. If you sign it, the exact opposite will happen.

MetaMask support, and no-one else's legitimate service, will ever contact you out of the blue asking for your seed phrase or to sign a transaction.
