2.20: The ETH Staking Scam

As Ethereum moved from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake, owners of ETH gained the opportunity to stake their holdings in return for rewards.

One convincing scam email purportedly from the "ETH Foundation" offered immediate 25% ETH rewards for staking. The website looked almost identical to the real Ethereum site. The giveaways: the "From" address was from an unrelated domain, there was a spelling mistake in a footer email, the website URL had "staking-" prepended, the offer promised 25% APY paid upfront (not how staking works), and there was a countdown timer creating false urgency.

Anyone who connected their wallet to that site lost all their ETH immediately. Always verify the exact URL of any site you interact with, and remember: if an offer sounds too good to be true, it is.
