2.18: The Trezor Scam

Trezor is a popular hardware wallet — though not our recommendation. It is also the subject of an ongoing scam in which a fake mobile app appears in the Apple App Store. It has been removed multiple times but keeps returning.

The scam is simple: after downloading the fake app, it asks you to input your private keys. The latest victim lost 17.1 BTC — worth nearly $1mm.

If someone has gone to the trouble of using a hardware wallet, they should understand the basics of crypto security: no legitimate app will ever ask for your private keys or seed phrase.

Our recommendation remains the Ledger Nano X.
