2.14: Coronavirus Scams

Scammers claiming to be from either the WHO or CDC claimed they could provide a list of COVID-positive residents in your area in return for a payment in cryptos.

Another variation was a text message or email urging the recipient to claim £458 from the UK government due to the Coronavirus, in exchange for a small crypto payment. The website used to deliver this was actually harvesting identity and bank account details.

As an ironic aside, if you search for "bitcoin scams" you will find many articles on the topic — almost all of which carry adverts for bitcoin scams. The thinking presumably being that adverts on an article about bitcoin scams must be genuine.
